It’s a process…
One of the most successful and healing programs of our time is Alcoholics Anonymous. It’s 12-step process has been adopted to effectively deal with and treat many kinds of addictions and obsessions and serious personal problems. The 1st step is to admit that I have a problem and it is bigger than I can handle. The problem is controlling and driving my life. This is difficult for us to do because we believe we can handle any problem that comes our way. So to admit that we cannot overcome some problem, that we cannot save ourselves or our families, that we have very little control over our lives is often difficult for us to believe or accept. The 2nd step necessary for healing is to believe in a higher power that can restore us and bring us back to sanity. This is also a difficult step to handle because I may not know who my higher power is and find it impossible to relate to. The movement to acknowledge the higher power as a loving, merciful God is at the heart of healing and Jesus’ message when He says come to me all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you healing and new life. May we always be humble enough to acknowledge our human weaknesses and go to Him for restoration, forgiveness, and healing. It will make all the difference in the world and in our lives. May we learn how to “come to Him,” know Him, trust Him, and receive the gift of healing from Him. |

St. Vincent de Paul - Please do not send any rags to St. Vincent. We no longer have a buyer. Thank you. "May I live in them as you live in Me." Christians are four things, First, they are a body in which Christ lives. Paul writes, “I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me.” Galatians 2:20 Second, they are a mind through which Christ thinks. Paul writes, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” Phillipians 2:5 Third, they are a voice through which Christ speaks. Jesus said, “Whoever listens to you listen to me.” Luke 10:16 Fourth, they are a heart through which Christ loves. Jesus said, “Whatever yo did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 To what extent are we the body, mind, voice, and heart of Jesus? Christ has no hands but ours, no feet but ours, no voice but ours, no heart but ours. This is the time of year when people are either taking vacations or dreaming of them. That includes popes. Despite his many hours of meetings and ministry, Pope John Paul II always made time to go skiing or hiking. Pope Benedict XVI has followed that wise tradition by vacationing in the Italian village of Les Combes each July and visiting Castelgandolfo, long known as the summer residence of the popes. Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa, a preacher of the papal household, once told Vatican Radio that relaxing and having fun are necessary parts of a vacation, but said people should not forget that vacations can also be a time of discovery. “Perhaps the most beautiful meaning of vacation is that of getting back into an intimate, profound contact with the root of our being, with God,” he said. Americans are said to forego vacations more than any other nation in the world. Perhaps we’re losing more than sleep. “The purpose of the
Holy Hour is to encourage a deep personal encounter with Christ. The
holy and glorious God is constantly inviting us to come to Him, to hold
converse with Him, to ask for such things as we need, and to experience
what a blessing there is in fellowship with Him.” (Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen) |
